Sutainable Development & Tourism
If everyone in the world lived as the people in the United States, then we would need 5 planets just to   support our planet's present world population.
Surely economic development is not humanities gateway to freedom and happiness. While we understand that true sustainable development is a global challenge, we also recognize that our own long term sustainable development is tied into helping Costa Rica and our surrounding communities become more sustainable.
Sustainable Development stands for meeting the needs of present generations without jeopardizing the ability of futures generations to meet their own needs
On a global level our Sustainability Center will  be dedicated towards education, cooperation and assistance assisting with sustainability on a planetary scale.
Costa Rica is the perfect place for the Gaia Vista Sustainability Center.
Costa Rica generates 78 percent of its energy with hydroelectric power and another 18 percent by wind or geothermal.   Costa Rica now plans to cut emissions from transport, farming and industry, and is the first country in the world to pledge to eliminate its carbon footprint within 20 years. Costa Rica with a little support from organizations like ours will most likely be the first nation in the world to go carbon neutral.
Costa Rica is the #1 eco tourism destination in the world. The current resort models for sustainable tourism in Costa Rica while commercially successful, do not adequately address the ecological impact that this tourism is having in the area - nor do they address the social and cultural impacts on the fabric of this developing country. Part of our mission is to address these critical requirements in a holistic and sustainable manner, and to be a model for what sustainable tourism is all about.
We recognize that a community committed to sustainability must encompass a number of key elements including; cultural, social, economic and the physical environment itself.
