Gaia Vista - name definition and expansion
The word Gaia itself is the name for the ancient Greek Earth Mother Goddess. More recently James Lovelock put forward the Gaia Hypothesis which proposes that living and nonliving parts of the earth are viewed as a complex interacting system that can be thought of as a single living organism. Ecological theory has shown how the Earth itself behaves as a single, self-regulating system comprised of physical, chemical, biological and human components.
Through a deep understanding of the Gaia hypothesis, Global Change can no longer be understood in terms of a simple cause-effect paradigm. Human-driven changes cause multiple effects that cascade through the Earth System in complex ways. These effects interact with each other on a local, regional and global-scale changing multidimensional patterns that are difficult to understand and even more difficult to predict.
Gaia Vista at its core is about developing a living model to help heal the rift between nature and modern day society. As modern people we have become disassociated and destructive towards nature, and our own inner connection to Gaia.
The ecological and sustainability movement which has been gaining momentum over the last several years; can be seen as a way to heal our connection with nature and try and preserve the present day fragileness of the planet we call home.
Gaia Vista is about healing our connection to the Greek Earth Goddess energy.
The word Vista which comprises the second aspect of our name should be seen in it's relation to Gaia and is defined as - a distant view or an awareness of time and events, providing us with a broad mental view. Vista is also defined as a view or outlook - especially one seen through a passage, as between rows of trees; or in our case a view or outook seen through the two mountains that form the valley in which we have stewardship over.
In our case this definition of Vista can be seen as the view Gaia sees as she looks out through the two mountains that form the valley where Gaia Vista is located. From the human perspective Gaia Vista means our broad mental view of the time and events that affect our Planetary Consciousness.
